Coaches and horses

Not sure how I found this, but a fun piece from the San Diego paper about the relationship between horseracing and basketball coaches. Bob Boyd (USC), Tark (UNLV/Long Beach / Fresno), Pete Newell (Cal), and even Bob Knight are mentioned. So is Rick Pitino, but can you imagine Pitino hanging around with these guys? Or perhaps more appropriate, can you imagine these guys letting Pitino hang around with them?

Sure he can coach, but can he recruit?

Article in the NY Times about the current heyday of college basketball in New York...it's a quick profile on coaches like Bobby Gonzalez (Seton Hall), Fred Hill (Rutgers), and Barry Rohrssen (Manhattan). The competitBobby Gonzalez (Seton Hall), ion for talent is very high in the five boroughs, but each of these gentlemen is, in his own right, apparently a master recruiter.
